A chaos loving omnipotent inter-dimensional being once told me that all good things must come to an end.  So to is the case with Amala's Blade.

Issue 4 will be hitting the shelves very shortly and while I have no interest in ruining it for you, it literally pits our brave heroine against everyone.  Like...you know...everyone.

The creative team again puts together an amazing effort.  Steve Horton is a master or creating strong and memorable characters without having them explain themselves to the reader.  Amala has a definite voice and it's one of a strong and unique leading lady.  One never questions Horton's grasp of his character or the decisions she makes.

But by far the standout in this issue is the art of Michael Dialynas.  Dialynas puts together a beautifully orchestrated swordfight without missing a motion.  More happens on the page than it seems like a page is capable of holding.  Amala is one of the most capable and least exploited female characters in modern comics and I just never get tired of appreciating it.  She's not a "girl hero", she's just a hero who is a girl.

Sadly, this wraps up the mini and for the time being there don't seem to be any more Amala's coming.  But I feel fortunate that this series has introduced me to two really top notch creators.  Horton and Dialynas are names to look out for when you scan the racks of your comic shop.  And maybe, somewhere down the line, we'll get to see issue 1 of...oh, I don't know...Amala's Shield solicited.  We can hope, right?
