Once again I am reviewing a title without reading the arc's previous issues. And in this comic both the main story and bonus story are part 4s. So forgive the lack of a comprehensive synopsis.
However from what I can gather the both stories are flashbacks from an earlier time in Batman's career as the caped crusader. The first ally has a global setting, which makes it interesting taking Batman a little outside the comfort of home. Also there is some intriguing dialogue between Batman and Alfred.
Including some internal dialogue from Alfred that really characterizes him, Batman and their relationship. Snyder's writing seems rich and complex without being unnecessarily confusing, assuming you have been following the title.
Art is again seeming to follow the DC trend as being rough and lush and detailed without being overly stylized. In other words fantastic.
