Manga-creating foursome CLAMP announced on their official website on Wednesday that they are illustrating a new Japanese edition of Peter and Wendy, J.M. Barrie's novelization of his famous Peter Pan play. The book, titled Peter Pan to Wendy in Japanese, is due out in November and will also feature a cover by CLAMP.
The volume will be a part of Japanese publisher Kodansha's Aoi Tori Bunko (Blue Bird Books) imprint. CLAMP also contributed art to an Aoi Tori collection of magic-themed stories titled Omishiroi Hanashi o Yomitai! (Magical Hen), which translates to "I want to read an interesting story! (Magical Edition)." That book was published last month.
CLAMP is the award-winning creative team behind such manga as xxxHOLiC, Chobits, and Magic Knight Rayearth. The group consists of four women and originated as a dōjin (self-published) circle. CLAMP debuted in 1989 with the manga RG Veda. One of CLAMP's more recent works, Kobato., has been licensed for release in English by Yen Press. It was also adapted into a television anime which aired in Japan from October 2009 to March 2010.
Nippon Animation adapted the Peter Pan story as one of the television anime series in its World Masterpiece Theater franchise in 1989.
