Lost in the Wash 2010 Lint-Trap Edition

Lost in the Wash is a gothic horror graphic novel from writer John Ira Thomas (Zoo Force) and artist Will Grant (The Scrounge Was Here!).  Lost in the Wash “The First Half” published the first two chapters of the story, “Presoak” and “Agitate.”

Set in the town of Isco, Lost in the Wash focuses on Darin, a down and out loser type who works at his uncle’s Laundromat.  Not only does Darin have to deal with his asshole uncle, but he also has to put up with jerky customers.  Then, one day, something wet, wicked, and monstrous pops out of a washer and devours a contrary customer.  Darin decides that a monster in the washers is a good thing, especially if it will rid him of rude customers.

Lost in the Wash: 2010 Lint-Trap Edition (Chapter 3: “Spin”) picks up after the revelation at the end of “Agitate,” that Darin drowned as a child.  However, Darin’s uncle doesn’t exactly provide clear answers to Darin’s questions.  Meanwhile, Darin discovers that someone has made a pet of the monster in the washers, and watchers-on-the-sidelines, Terisa Salazar and Walt, deal with Darin’s problems for their own advantage… or so it seems.

Lost in the Wash: 2010 Lint-Trap Edition, like the earlier Lost in the Wash chapters, reminds me of horror comics from EC Comics and Warren Publishing.  Artist Will Grant is channeling Graham “Ghastly” Ingels and even some S. Clay Wilson.  Horror stories usually keep the reader guessing what comes next, but John Ira Thomas has a surprise on every page.  There’s no telling where this is going, but the reader will want to know.  Lost in the Wash: 2010 Lint-Trap Edition is wild and wooly the way good horror comics should be.
