In this issue the Super Buddies and company step out of Hell with Ice Maiden - Tora. However, the Demon has given them one condition upon which he will release their former team mate from Hell. Walk a long road which will take them back to their world, while Tora will follow them. However, if they should turn back at any moment, Tora will return to hell and they will lose their only chance of reviving her.
This is the most gripping of the “funny” Justice League by Giffen and Dematteis. It’s a shame that many comic book fans always perceived this team as a funny only and nothing else. This team gave the Justice League a level of characterization that it never had before. For example, all characters react differently to Tora’s return as they march out of Hell. As Power Girl says “ . . . if we’re feeling it, imagine what it’s like for them.” Speaking of Guy Gardner and Fire, respectively Ice’s pseudo boyfriend and best friend.
As usual, the action is non stop as Power Girl and Guy fight demons in hell. But Maguire also succeeds in the touching moments where the Super Buddies march out of hell. Facial expressions are what Maguire does best and here he doesn’t let fans down.
