INCREDIBLE HULK #78: "Tempest Fugit" Pt. 2 (of 5)
The mystery of the tempest-tossed island continues to thicken as the Hulk finds himself in a major smackdown with a "smash"-ing monster; at the same time, details of a tragic incident in his youth are seemingly an open book to the mysterious individual overseeing all that transpires there (and no, it's not Jeff Probst).
This story is weird as hell. On one hand, it’s accessible on a peripheral level. But you know there’s an undercurrent that carries more information, which will be missed if this is your first exposure to Hulk. The story is entertaining though and we find out some interesting things this issue. The flashbacks are explored more in depth, but are they holding more to the predicament than we think!?! And the Island may be holding a bigger threat to Hulk (the real one), than any monster!!!
Weeks continues to impress this issue, even though the first shot of Hulk (the green one) is mad off-key (the head looks out of proportion). The flashback scenes look real organic and have a kind of foreboding feel to them. The scenes at the end with the mystery kids are real nice (warm) and we get some real throw down fighting in the middle. And that gives a new meaning to maniacal. We get a good cover to this issue. The white background really makes the Hulks pivotal to the eye.
