Rated “T” for “Teen”
Chikage Deguchi is a 31-year-old office worker, and she believes that she has missed out on love and success. During her high school reunion, the fact that Chikage is still a virgin is revealed, and she is humiliated. However, Chikage gets a chance to be 15-years-old again. Thanks to weird science, Chikage can transform into a teen with the help of high school friend, Kanshi Tokita. She takes the name “Akari,” and on her first day being a teen, a chance at stardom comes her way, but is Chikage really ready to change... everything?
As Idol Dreams, Vol. 6 (Chapters 26 to 31) opens, Chikage learns that Hibiki Maido, the producer of her music (as Akari), has been missing work, including rehearsing with the pop idol group, “Valentine,” of which he is a member. Where is he? Chikage learns that tragedy is about to enter Hibiki's life. Also, the wedding day of her former high school classmate and crush, Kanshi Tokita, and her coworker, Hanami “Hina” Hinagiku, is getting closer. And Hina is hiding a bombshell secret.
THE LOWDOWN: I am a big fan of the manga of Arina Tanemura, so I really like the Idol Dreams manga. The world of comics is in a good place when we have new comics from mangaka Arina Tanemura.
Idol Dreams Graphic Novel Volume 6 is the best volume of the series thus far. I would be surprised if another volume surpasses it, but I refuse to spoil it (or at least, I will try). It is hugely emotional and melodramatic and focuses on characters facing things they cannot change and can change (if they decide to be brave about it).
I can say that Vol. 6 is the ultimate reward to Tanemura's loyal readers. If you don't read Idol Dreams, go back to the first volume and read until you reach this climax... I mean sixth volume, which will be your reward. And because Tetsuchiro Miyaki's translation is killing it, I gotta have Vol. 7.
POSSIBLE AUDIENCE: Fans of Arina Tanemura must have the Shojo Beat title, Idol Dreams.
