Rated “M” for “Mature”
Gangsta: Cursed is the prequel to the edgy crime manga,
Gangsta. Cursed is largely set in the city of
Ergastulum, a crime-ridden city. The story explores the dark and violent past of key characters from Gangsta, in particular
Marco Adriano a.k.a. “
Spas,” a “
Hunter.” Hunters find and kill “
Twilights,” humans who have powers and abilities that normal humans do not. Cursed is written by the creator-writer-artist of Gangsta,
Kohske, and is drawn by
Syuhei Kamo.
Gangsta: Cursed, Vol. 3 (Chapters 7 to 9) opens as the “
Second Destroyers Group” continues to slaughter Twilights in District 1. The body count could be as high as 200 or 300 dead. Prolific Twilight killer, Spas, is having second thoughts about killing Twilights, while the rest of the Destroyers continue their bloodbath. Meanwhile, the Twilights belonging to the Monroe crime family make a concerted push against the Hunters. The violence seems to be unstoppable, and a secret about Daniel Monroe is revealed by a Hunter to a Twilight.
THE LOWDOWN: I was skeptical of the Gangsta: Cursed manga, initially. After reading the first volume of the Gangsta: Cursed manga, I was impressed.
Gangsta: Cursed Volume 3, like the rest of the series, thus far, is a repeat of the action and fight scenes. It's high-wire, Matrix-fu, gymkata. I get the feeling that some character drama is coming, but so far, this series continues the violent action of the first series.
I READS YOU RECOMMENDS: Fans of Gangsta and of violent action-thriller manga will want the VIZ Signature,
Gangsta: Cursed.
