Rated “M” for “Mature”
Agni and his sister, Luna, live on a frozen Earth cursed by “the Ice Witch.” They are also among those known as “The Blessed,” people born with abilities to perform miracles. Some of “The Blessed” are unfriendly, like the man called “Doma.” He is blessed with the power of fire, which he uses to destroy Agni and Luna's village and to kill Luna. Doma engulfs Agni, who has regenerative powers, in a flame that will never extinguish. Now, Agni is “Fire Punch,” a walking man of flame, seeking revenge.
As Fire Punch, Vol. 7 (Chapters 61 to 71) opens, Agni lives among a clan of women. He has taken the revived Judah as his sister, Luna. In order to live among them, Agni hides his true identity, especially as one of the women, Tena, has asked Agni to kill Fire Punch. Tena, pregnant after being raped, approaches her delivery date. Meanwhile, forces outside the clan believe that Judah-Luna is the reason the cold weather has returned with a force.
THE LOWDOWN: The Fire Punch manga is usually full of surprises. This tough-minded, dystopian manga also takes time to deliver some tough-minded violence.
Fire Punch Graphic Novel Volume 7 forces Agni to deal with reality and the reality of his situation. It is as if creator, Tatsuki Fujimoto, won't let his star deny the monster that he is – Fire Punch. I have to say that I enjoyed the (dishonest) peace that Agni had been living, but I am anxious to see where this series is going. There is so much change, and so many characters that I had grown to like are gone. So Fujimoto is right to move us on – on to more craziness.
I READS YOU RECOMMENDS: Readers looking for dystopian science fiction manga will want to try VIZ Signature's Fire Punch.
