Elektra # 27
By Kevin Scott
September 8, 2003 - 13:21
Elektra is an expert of the martial arts. She is a mistress of the skills of the ancient ninja of Japan and wields a pair of three-pronged daggers called Sais, though she also is proficient with, and makes use of, a multitude of martial-arts weaponry. She will need all these skills, as she's currently on the run after failing to assassinate a ruthless African Dictator.
Rodi has found the art of telling a story that delivers with minimal words. Nothing is outstanding, but it's solid and maintains at a good level. We were left last issue wondering how Elektra would escape being killed after the hit went sour. This issue we get answers and more. We're also shown a glimpse of another side to Elektra's nature, which you could miss if you blink.
The art is pretty good. We are given good action sequences and characterisation. I'd say the only thing that's a little off is Elektra herself. She moves well, it's just that she looks rather boorish (manly) at times. Which I don't think she's supposed to look like. What was really nice, other than the explosion effects and facial expressions, was the reflection of Elektra in Bridget Sapanmya's eye. Very nice!
