Run, Jerry, run! in this scene from the film. |
23-year-old slacker Jerry Shaw (Shia LaBeouf) returns to Chicago after a trip home to deal with a family tragedy. Single mom Rachel Holloman (Michelle Monaghan) sends her 8-year-old off to his first trip away from home and away from her. Then, Rachel gets a call from a mysterious woman informing her that she has to follow instructions implicitly or her son, Sam, will die. The same woman calls Jerry to inform him that he is about to be arrested.
Suddenly, Jerry and Rachel are two strangers who find themselves thrown together by a mysterious phone call from a woman they have never met. At first suspicious of each other, they soon realize that they are both at the mercy of this strangely disembodied voice. Threatening their lives and family, the mystery woman pushes Jerry and Rachel into a series of increasingly dangerous situations – using the technology of everyday life to track and control their every move. As the situation escalates, these two ordinary people become the country’s most wanted fugitives, who must work together to discover what is really happening – and more importantly, why.
