DC
Comics has announced the cancellations of six titles: Deathstroke, The Fury
of Firestorm: The Nuclear Man, The Ravagers, The Savage Hawkman, Sword of
Sorcery and Team 7.
“There’s a variety of reasons for when we unfortunately have to cancel a book,”
DC Editor-in-Chief Bob Harras told Comic Book Resources. “So even though...the
monthly title is going away, the characters are still going to be very
important to the ongoing storyline of the New 52.
According to December sales estimates, all of the series suffered from low
sales. The Ravagers ranked the highest with 16,177 copies, and The
Fury of Firestorm the lowest at just 11,997. Deathstroke and The
Savage Hawkman suffered when Rob Liefeld abruptly left both titles in
August, the latter having gone through four writing teams and two major art
teams in less than two years.
DC Comics has quickly added two new titles to its line-up: The Green Team,
written by Art Baltazar and Franco, with art by Ig Guara; and The Movement
written by Gail Simone and art by Freddie Williams II.
The Green Team is supposedly based on a feature originally seen in the
pages of First Issue Special in the 1970s. It features a group of
wealthy, thrill-seeking teen-agers. In contrast, The Movement is a book
about power — who owns it, who uses it, who suffers from its abuse, according
to the Huffington Post.
