Rated “T+” for “Older Teen”
A fateful argument with Father Fujimoto, the famous exorcist who is like a father to him, reveals the terrible secret of Rin Okumura’s origin. The Demon Lord Satan is Rin’s father, but Rin is determined to reject his demonic blood line. He enrolls in True Cross Academy Private High School, where he will train to be an exorcist!
In Blue Exorcist, Vol. 6, Rin becomes embroiled in the troubles of the Myodha Temple families. Two relics, the Eyes of the Impure King, are in danger of being stolen by traitors, but the identity of the traitors will rock True Cross Academy. Rin tries to intervene and only ends up revealing his secrets to everyone, but a letter will reveal even more secrets of his past.
THE LOWDOWN: After reading the first issue, I was not ready to give Blue Exorcist manga a grade. Having just finished reading the sixth volume, I find it different from what I remember. Much of the comedy has been replaced with conspiracy drama and institutional intrigue, which I like. I am puzzled that the current storyline, the Myodha Temple plot, seems to take the story away from the main character. It’s as if this is an entirely different manga series. I would still like to see where this is going.
POSSIBLE AUDIENCE: Readers who like the shonen action/comedy/fantasy may like Blue Exorcist.
