Bloodhound #7

By Koppy McFad
January 20, 2005 - 14:35

The lead character, Travis Clevanger is in jail when some mind-controlling villain takes over the prison, sending guards and inmates into trances where they re-live their worst nightmares. Clevanger's personal terror is revealed and while it is shocking and traumatizing, it isn't what anyone would expect. This stand-alone issue is inventive and surprising and the lead character is one of the most original in mainstream comics: brutal and offensive yet strangely sympathetic. Kirk still has trouble drawing shotguns but he does bring the humanity out of his characters so that they look like real people and not just supporting characters in some larger story. There is a little too much blood being sprayed around but considering the setting, it seems fitting. Alas, this title is reportedly due to for cancellation soon. But for once, you can't say that this title got the axe because it was boring. BLOODHOUND may be just another example of quality not being rewarded in the comic book marketplace.
