Rated “T” for “Teen”
Ichigo “Strawberry” Kurosaki was introduced into the world of the Soul Reapers after his family was attacked by a “Hollow,” a malevolent lost soul. Ichigo, born with the ability to see ghosts, became a Reaper, and now, he protects the innocent and cleanses malevolent lost souls, helping them find peace.
As Bleach, Vol. 34 (entitled King of the Kill) begins, Ichigo and his companions are getting their asses kicked and handed to them. They entered the Arrancar world, Hueco Mundo, on a mission to rescue their friend and compatriot, Orihime Inoue. They penetrated the Arrancar stronghold, Las Noches, and then got beat down. But, now, it’s the Soul Reaper Captains to the rescue!
THE LOWDOWN: There are times when creator Tite Kubo uses several consecutive chapters of Bleach to develop and to illuminate characters. There is very little of that in Vol. 34; this time, it is fists of fury and swords of doom. Still, Kubo does fight scenes as good as and often better than some the best superhero comic book artists known for drawing big battles. Bleach is pure shonen fight comic awesomeness, and it is one of the best comics in the world, also.
POSSIBLE AUDIENCE: If shonen were a person and he wanted shonen action, even he would seek out Bleach.
