Avengers/JLA #3

This series reads like a movie plot. First we get the climatic introduction where each team is pitted against each other. After, we get the big brawl with the team just before they realize it's time to reunite and fight the common foe. This issue picks up from there. And like a good third act, momentum is gained until the final fight that will end Krona's threat.
I really didn't expect what Busiek would do in this issue. He pulled out the old annual crossover from the Justice league and replaced the Justice Society with the Avengers. While it works and he explores many repercussions, it makes the tone of the story too DC Comics oriented. Marvel's universe has fewer chronic continuity problems and therefore, it wasn't as interesting.
Perez broke his hand while drawing the cover of this issue. It's more impressive than the classic Crisis # five cover with the heads split in the middle. Perez drew several periods of the teams' history. It seemed effortless. He brings out the definitive version of each character's look. My only complain is the montage of the twin Earths. Live photos and comic art rarely mix very well.
