Rated “T” for “Teen”
In the year 2063, interstellar travel has become the norm. Eight teenagers and one pre-teen girl (a.k.a. “Planet Camp Group B-5”) are participating in “Planet Camp.” They begin a sojourn to Planet McPa for a week-long excursion. Soon after they arrive on McPa, however, a mysterious orb appears and transports the entire group into the depths of space. Now, 5,000 light-years away, the only thing that can get them home is Astra, an empty spaceship, floating alone in space and low on supplies.
Astra Lost in Space, Vol. 4 (entitled Secrets; Chapters 29 to 37) finds the crew of the Astra stranded on the planet Icriss. The Astra is damaged beyond repair, and the crew despairs until... Then, they discover another ship that looks exactly like the Astra, and inside its bowels is a woman in cryogenic sleep. Who is she? Where is she from? Will the discovery of the mystery women help to get the B-5 group off this horror planet?
THE LOWDOWN: My reviews of the Astra Lost in Space manga will continue to be generous... because this series deserves it. This teen-oriented, sci-fi graphic novel series from VIZ Media is a fantastic read with winning appeal.
Astra Lost in Space Graphic Novel Volume 4 is the best volume yet. I have to be careful about spoiling Vol. 4's secrets, and there is so much to reveal – all of it shocking or surprising. Some of the reveals are mild, but a few are a doozy. What creator Kenta Shinohara presents practically and completely changes what this series is about. Astra Lost in Space is one of the best YA (young adult) graphic novels currently being published in North America – a Top 10, for sure.
I READS YOU RECOMMENDS: Fans of science fiction comic books, manga, and graphic novels will want the “Shonen Jump” title, Astra Lost in Space.
