Rated “T+” for “Older Teen”
Why are the outcast students of
Class 3-E at
Kunugigaoka Junior High trying to kill their teacher? They have the perfect excuse. That teacher is the alien octopus that recently destroyed 70% of the moon. This alien traveled to Earth, where he became the teacher the students named “
Koro Sensei.” He promises to destroy the Earth after 3-E students graduate. Thus, it is up to these students to kill their teacher in order to save the world. They are the
“Assassination Classroom.”
As
Assassination Classroom, Vol. 12 (Chapters 98 to 106; entitled
Time for the Grim Reaper) opens, the students of Class 3-E get glitzy new uniforms with super-powers. They will need them. The ultimate assassin, “the
Grim Reaper,” thinks that he has finally concocted the plan that will destroy Koro Sensei. He plots to capture and battle Koro Sensei's young assassin students as a warm-up exercise. Class 3-E thinks it can beat the Grim Reaper, until the students find themselves needing help.
THE LOWDOWN: The
Assassination Classroom manga remains a high-quality high school comedy with a twist – the twist being the killer alien teacher. I think creator Yusei Matsui has won any argument about his inventiveness, so I need to stop expecting this series to fall apart.
Assassination Classroom Volume 12 has a single focus, the Grim Reaper, and he proves to be a formidable and attractive bad guy. Spoiler alert – this volume ends with a cliffhanger, but the story line is so good, many readers will definitely be picking up the next volume. By the way, the bounty on Koro Sensei's head continues to fluctuate between 100 million and 300 million dollars. I'll overlook that little inconsistency because
Assassination Classroom is worth millions.
POSSIBLE AUDIENCE: Fans of humorous sci-fi will want the Shonen Jump Advanced title,
Assassination Classroom.
