Since the series began, we’ve been wondering if the warrior woman by Conan’s side is in some way his long-lost love, Yanna. Of course, the series wouldn’t be called Wonder Woman Conan if we didn’t also believe her to be Diana of Themiscyra, deepening the mystery. This issue resolves that, and that’s all I have to say about that.

But this issue turns the usual team-up trope on its head. Instead of fighting each other, to learn they share a common enemy, they’ve been friends until now, when they are forced against their will into combat. Each is determined to win the prize set for them, but the mystic forces that have brought them together are determined to use those rewards to tear them apart.

In previous reviews, I’ve said this is very much a Conan book – and it still is. But for the first time, we see elements of the Wonder Woman lore begin to creep in. Not the least of which is the artwork by Lopresti and Ryan, which has the same polished look as that of Buscema, Chan and Perez.

I’m almost saddened to see this series end, though when collected into trade format, I’m sure it will be a satisfying read for fans of both Conan and Wonder Woman. Perhaps it should have been published in trade format to begin with.

Rating: 8/10
