Unity #4 Review

Aric of Dacia is defeated. He and his people are imprisoned and the X-O Manowar armor is in Harada's possession. Livewire, the only other being that the X-O Manowar armor has bonded with besides Aric, has discovered the evils that her former sensei has perpetrated in his mission to shape the world in his image, and has agreed with the rest of the Unity team to take the armor from Harada at any cost. What the team plans to do with the armor will shock not only Harada, but Aric himself...
Writer Matt Kindt pens an all out, no holds barred, battle between Gilad, Ninjak, Livewire, and Harada. It's a battle long in the coming in the Valiant Universe, and it dwarfs any battle between Peter Stanchek and Harada over in the pages of
Harbinger. Unity is basically Valiant's version of The Avengers though, so the big battles between the marquee players in the Valiant U 2.0 should be showcased here. I always though of Stanchek as being one of the heavy hitters of the Valiant canon though, so hopefully he'll earn himself a spot on the Unity team eventually.
Most importantly though,
Unity #4 gives us a clue to the future standing of Aric in the Valiant U 2.0. While I'm not going to give anything away here...I don't think that we'll be seeing him squaring off against the rest of Unity for a while. Hopefully though, Aric and the X-O Manowar armor will remain mainstays in the pages of
Unity. I really love artist Doug Braithwaite's take on the character. Braithwaite does an excellent job bringing all of these characters to life and really knows how to visually choreograph a huge knock down, drag out fight between super powered beings.
As is the case with most of Valiant Comics' titles,
Unity continues to deliver great action and story on a grand scale. It's another must read in a string of must reads from Valiant.
