Review: United States vs. Murder Inc. #4

I feel as if this series is finally getting to their heart of the story. A U.S. President has declared war on the mob, but the mob is fighting back with one of its top assassins. Rose Jagger was well on her way to becoming persona non grata, but the families have placed renewed faith in her by assigning her the hit. Yeah, like they’re doing her a favor.

But any threat against a sitting (or not) president has to be answered, and it isn’t long before Rose finds herself on the run from all manner of law enforcement. Which begs the question: how likely is the mob going to welcome her home with open arms? If anything, they gave her the job counting on her not coming out of it alive.

If this is the premise of the story – Rose’s survival after taking aim at a president – I’m in. I’m still not keen on the artwork, but I can imagine a different artist drawing it as I go. Perhaps Cully Hamner. He’d have done well on this series, I think. I just don’t care for Michael Avon Oeming’s work, but to each his own.

For the first time, I’m looking forward to next issue. I don’t know how sustainable the series can be, because eventually the chase will need to end. But then, I said that about Scooby Apocalypse and it’s still going strong. If Bendis has an endgame in mind, I’ll sit back and enjoy the ride.
