Scott Summers, leader of the X-Men continues his astral battle against the piece of the Void that crept into Emma Frost’s mind when she confronted the Sentry. The Void wants to take over Scott’s mind and show him a all the things it can do. Elsewhere, Beast is making important decisions about his future with the X-Men and he may not be one of the furniture for long. Will he stay or leave?

Although the adventure with the Void was proactive in a sense, this was still a quiet issue with few crisis on the horizon for the X-Men and a lot of internal problems to solve. Magneto working with Namor the Submariner, this is a classic scene. I like the conclusion of the fight Scott delivered to the Void but ask myself if this little plot point will be used to haunt the X-Men and the rest of the Marvel Comics’ universe in the future. This issue wasn’t bad at all, but still a perfect jumping point for new readers.

I’m quite happy that Dodson is continuing to work on this series. He brings a plastic quality to the characters and has them interacting in well designed, but simple environments. His depiction of Scott Summers made the character look very old in the mind game adventure versus the Void. I’m not sure how old Summers is supposed to be, but 40 is definitely not the number I have in mind.
