Toy Story of Terror

Toy Story of Terror is a compilation of short Pixar movies with lead horror story. While staying at a motel overnight, someone or something creepy steals each toy one after the other. Jessie is the last toy left standing but she is claustrophobic and panics. Even the tough drilling by local toy Action Man – Combat Carl cannot help her. Will Jessie snap out and stop the horrific creature stealing all the toys?
I enjoyed this story. Although a
Scooby Doo-like mystery, it brings out the various personalities of many of the toys. I admit to not being as familiar with many of them as I used to. I haven’t seen all the sequels. Still, even if you are an older viewer, the characters will still charm you. I enjoyed that the plot twist has to do with toy collecting culture. The villain seemed fitting!
The three other short stories were as fun but felt like commercials for more toys. The
Hawaiian Vacation promoted Barbie and Ken dolls a bit too much for my tastes. Even though the characterization and the plot were good, I have a problem believing in Barbie and Ken. The
Small Fry short was fun too but alluded to an earlier Toy Story theme – the toy-vending machine. I did like the toy self-help group with all the rejected and dangerous toys. The best of the shorter shorts was the
Partysauraus. You should not show it to your kids as they’ll want to go out and party like animals! All kidding aside, the idea of a club in a bathtub was clever!
The animation on the shorts was good. The music in some of them, like Partysaurus was even better. Various Pixar studios worked on the shorts. Try the films with the commercial option on. You will witness some cheesy 1980s-lke commercial for some of the new toys in the main video. Some viewers may dislike this. I laughed.
