Thor 7
From the dream realm of Odinsleep, Odin tells the story of his fathers revenge. Bor grandfather of Thor never forgave his sons betrayal and cursed him to be similarly abandoned. Although Thor is reluctant to resurrect his father at first he cannot deny his love for the former ruler of Asgard, he offers to restore him to his throne. Odin now knows that his place is in the eternal defence of Thor's world from the evil within thenetherworld. The god king decides to stay behind but not before father and son battle side by side once again.

Oh yea and Donald Blake looks up an old flame...

Odin willingly steps aside and gives his blessing to Thor's claim to the throne of Asgard. Not only does he receive the moral support of his father but he becomes conscious of his fathers sacrifice to the protection of the living world, a great motivation in itself. This not only makes for a heart warming story (it's true!) but it puts Thor in a role of even greater power. Now is he the undisputed leader of his people and he has the support and backing of one of their most powerful and respected gods. Here is a story about a father willing to put his faith behind theachievements and ability of his son. Very sweet indeed. A very bold move in comics where we're used to seeing father and son at odds.

There is even a little to be said about Donald Blake's role in this continuing story. He seems to have become a follower of Thor himself. He travelsacross the country in search of his old lover. Although during their meeting it's clear that old feelings are still there his first concern is in the service of his master. Is he to become a herald orservant to his own alter ego? A very interesting aspect to the story indeed.

The art work is of a timeless style, rich, warm, and beautiful. Thor's design conveys such strength and power. Although he is a man of few words his presents communicates the character in every panel. Soft coloring that captures the mood is the cherry on top. This is easily one of the most beautiful books on the shelves today.

I wish it was five years from now and I could go back and buy the collected volumes of this legendary run. That way I could read issue after issue and not have to wait a month (or more) in between. I said before that this book is so good that it makes me want to cry. The reason for this is because all good things must come to an end (Morrison - Animalman, Dixon - Nightwing). I worry every time a book hits a peak like this that the only thing left is the cliff on the other side. In other words I'm saying BUY THIS BOOK NOW!
