The Women of X-Men May Get Their Own Series

Despite DC Comics' well documented history of questionable depictions of women, one thing the company can stand by is green-lighting Chuck Dixon's monthly title Birds of Prey featuring the Black Canary and Oracle. Although not necessarily dominating the sales charts, it is a landmark series for one of the best characterizations of female superheroes. Gail Simone did equally wonderful work, particularly by adding the Huntress and Lady Blackhawk to the primary cast. It's anticipated that it may be Marvel's turn to provide the industry with an all-female monthly title given the announcement of Brian Wood and Oliver Coipel's new series XX.

The women of the X-Men have always been some of the most fascinating characters in the industry, including Jean Grey, Storm, Psylock, Emma Frost, Mystique and Rouge among others. As the War On Women continues to dominate the political sphere and while rival publisher DC wages its own internal dissension within the ranks, a gynocentric comic book series featuring some of the world's most high-profile superheroines would be an awe inspiring gift to the (non-fake) geek girls around the globe.
