The rebel Avengers have come to Echo’s rescue, but before they can explain what brought them to Japan, there’s a long flashback about how this rogue team set itself up and tried to save Captain America after his alleged murder. However the rogue Avengers are way over their head has they come face to face with the registered Avengers. But we know everything will be right, right, as they are next to Echo.

This story is interesting but it seems that Bendis is trying to find more innovative ways to tell his stories as he makes the most outlandish flashbacks in years. I mean, a flashback within a flashback which ends in a to be continued, but we know the heroes will prevail, as we saw all of them in Japan later. One thing I do like about this issue is the tight continuity with the Mighty Avengers. It feels like reading old comic books again.

I don’t like Yu’s work for a series like the Avengers. He’s not iconic enough to handle a large cast. Sure, the artwork is fine and he renders each character well, but he just doesn’t fit the story. It feels like one is reading a ninja comic book or Street Fighter as opposed to traditional super hero antics.

8/10
