Various former Avengers continue their attempt to regroup and stop Chthon who now possesses the body of the super fast mutant Quicksilver. But there is dissension in the ranks as Stature doesn’t trust the Scarlet Witch which murdered her father, and the Hulk still resent Iron Man sending him offworld and being responsible for the death of his wife and child. Will the Avengers put their differences aside in time to stop Chthon
Last issue, I was sure that Quicksilver was the villain. I’m glad that he isn’t and that he may probably return to the fold of the Avengers, along with sister the Scarlet Witch, when this storyline is over. This team is starting to feel like the Westcoast Avengers with a mix of former Avengers like US Agent, the Vision, Hank Pym and Iron Man. It’s also filled with action and a good villain for the characters. It’s not groundbreaking storytelling, but it’s not bad either. I’m afraid that this series might turn into the junior title of the two Avengers’ series and it’s a shame.
Pham really borrows a lot from Kevin Maguire, even if his work is more angular and his ability to draw facial expressions not as strong. However the rock creatures he uses are clearly modelled after those the Defenders fought in the series created by Keith Giffen, J. M. DeMatteis and Maguire. Still, his work is well suited for a Marvel Comics series. No complaints from this reader.
