Harry Osborn and best friend Peter Parker celebrate the engagement of Aunt May with Jonah Jameson’s father when an unexpected guess spoils the party. Harry’s father, Norman Osborn, the head of America’s H.A.M.M.E.R. the security agency of the United States interrupts the party to make an offer his son cannot refuse. He wants him to work with the Avengers. Will Harry submit to his father’s pressures?
This was an enjoyable issue with artwork by Jimenez that was satisfying. He really ads a new dimension to Spider-man’s cast at once reminiscent of the characters, but also far more textured and compelling. I wish he could draw all issues of Spider-man! He’s been drawing the series for quite a while, but it’s still amazing to see him best past work. In this issue, he really raised all expectations, especially as Spider-man’s presence was limited.
This new storyline is just in time to celebrate the 600th issue of the Amazing Spider-man. Part of me asks how Kelly will pull of the confrontation between Norman Osborn and Spider-man without detracting from the overall game plan of the Dark Reign storyline affecting all Marvel Comics. Still, it was a good build up issue that concentrated on the characters and introduced a credible stake and conflict in the person of Norman Osborn. One issue which I wish had been addressed this issue is how Jonah Jameson Jr. feels about the black Spider-man in Norman’s Osborn’s Avengers. Does he think he’s ok?
