The New Avengers #27

Echo, Daredevil’s former opponent and ally has infiltrated organized crime in Japan and kept a close watch over that part of the world for the Avengers, under the guise of a male hero called Ronin. However, with the events of the civil war in the United States, she has had no contact from either Daredevil or Captain America. She’s on her own in this far away land, trying to do good. But Elektra is coming for her.

As the Civil War mini-series has become late, this story will confuse some readers as it occurs directly after Civil War #7. There are no spoilers revealed, except for the line up of some of the Avengers, after the civil War. Still, it’s a good introspective story about a member of Daredevil’s entourage that was affected by the civil war. The super hero “banter” featuring the Avengers was over the top and didn’t fit with the rest of the story.

The artwork is inconsistent. Some panels look very gorgeous while some others are off. A few even have cartoon hints about them. There are lots of useless full page spread that do not advance the story nor provide any useful information. Yu should keep to telling the story and not creating poster shots. The fight’s choreography could use some work as it is all disjointed. Comic book artists should always favour telling the story rather than featuring it.

Rating: 7 /10
