Teen Titans Go #19

This issue is focused on Beast Boy. In the first story, Beast Boy get a new power. He can smell the future which allows him to scent an impending evil in the form of Trigon, Raven’s demonic father. In the second story, Beast Boy is mistaken for the reincarnation of a prophesied herring king. This causes an army of evil orcs to try to prevent his coronation and dispose of him. It’s up to the Titans to help him.

Both stories are what I consider cute and make more fun of the characters than take them seriously. Each is resolved rather quickly too. I did feel that Cyborg, Raven and Starfire got less screen time and dialogue while Robin was the butt of jokes. But with so little space, the stories had to be resolved quickly while packing enough jokes. The comic was kids-friendly. I would say a six-years old would enjoy it. Of course, as a long time comic reader familiar with the Teen Titans, you will enjoy the tales on another level.

The artwork is very cartoony but funny. Everything is dynamic and easy to decipher. Marcelo Dichiara draws both stories, adhering strongly to the animated model sheets developed for this series years ago. Even for adults, this comic will provide a few good laughs and good break from gloomy comics. As for kids, it won’t talk down to them.
