Supreme Power # 1 Second Review

It took Marvel to finally write the Ultimate DC Comics characters many have been asking since the former revitalized its own stable of characters for a new generation. If I were the publisher of DC Comics, I would be afraid for my job. What does it say when you competitors write your characters better than you? Supreme Power is a new take on the Squadron Supreme, which is itself a revisionist Justice League.
The story chronicles the origin of Hyperion, the Squadron's Superman. The origin is similar, but with lots of twists, and the most thorough examination of what would really happen if a rocket ship fell in the heartland of the United States. Although a revisionist story, Straczyski glossed over a few elements. How do you feed and change the diapers of a kid who could break your fingers? At least there's suspense!
I don't know artist Gary Frank's work, but I find that it has a pleasant touch of Quesada, Geoff Darrow, Gleason and Doug Mahnke. I especially like the big-eye characters he draws, like Mark Milton, Hyperion's alter ego. His work is clean and each character has individualized looks. This is rare in comics.
