Lex Luthor tricks Superman into landing in his gigantic kryptonite base and almost defeats the hero until Wonder Woman saves him. Meanwhile, The Composite Superman from the future is looking for Superman in the present and attacks the Flash’s Central City. The Flash may not be strong enough to save the day. What will happen to Central City?
Although written for kids, I found that the story jumped into a lot of complicated backstory that I did not quite know about. If I was a bit confused about the apparent origin of the Composite Superman, I think most kids, who are even familiar with this material will be too. Yet, the characters were well characterized. You could hear Flash’s distinctive voice in the comic. This story is also a multipart one which I find a bold move for this kind of material. Usually, kids comics have self-contained stories.
Art Baltazar completely own this comic. He is an accomplished cartoonist that knows how to simplify complex character designs into something recognizable and dynamic. Superman is Superman. Batman is Batman. But each character has been stripped to its essential core which makes them more enticing, visually.
