Super Powers #4

Black Manta wants to find out why there is a giant kryptonite mass in the oceans. As he’s about to attack, he discovers that it is the headquarters of the Legion of Doom headed with several villains and led by Lex Luthor. Of course he joins them which forces the Justice League to intervene. But is it too late.
I’m starting to like this series which is an alternate take on the Justice League and the DC Comics universe but written for kids. The members of the Legion of Doom are also the classic members from the
Super Friends’s show. I still don’t understand what New Krypton is and why are Superman’s parents still alive. Art Baltazar and Franco are adept at including classic comics elements like the Justice League fighting Starro in iconic imagery that old fans will recognize and enjoy. This story may be for kids but a lot happens.
I really dig Baltazar’s simple yet clear cartoon style for this comic. It’s easy to dismiss and misunderstand how complex it is. The compositions are well thought of. Dare I say that Super Powers is more entertaining than the Justice League comic that came out this week…
