Star Wars: Lost Tribe of the Sith: Spiral #1 Advance Review
By Andy Frisk
July 29, 2012 - 10:00
The Lost Tribe of the Sith have entered a golden age as their power remains unchallenged except by those members of their own tribe. Such is the Sith way: “assassination is tolerated, but civil war is not.” Death Spinner, during an assassination attempt on the Grand Lord of the Sith on Kesh, is thwarted by Sith Officer Takara. The Grand Lord decides that Spinner has his uses though as the Sith Lords of Kesh are looking to expand and explore more of their world. Not to be outdone in the squabble for power, Takara sees an opportunity in Spinner as well…
A worthy start to an expansion of the tales of the Lost Tribe of the Sith begins with
Star Wars: Lost Tribe of the Sith: Spiral #1. Interesting character development, and a story populated by nothing but bad guy Force wielders (i.e. Siths), make the Lost Tribe of the Sith stories interestingly unique in the world of the
Star Wars expanded universe of tales. Die hard readers of Dark Horse’s
Star Wars tales will most likely find this expansion within an expansion to be just their sort of story, but casual
Star Wars fans might not, opting instead for more familiar characters and picking up the excellently written and drawn
Star Wars: Darth Vader and The Ghost Prison instead. They shouldn’t limit their
Star Wars reading experience though by sticking to familiar faces. It’s rare that a fictional universe actually has interesting and compelling stories that focus on its villains, both familiar and foreign.
The artistic team of Andrea Mutti, Pierluigi Baldassini, and Micheal Atiyeh bring this tale of the Lost Sith to life excellently. Creating sweeping, and changing, landscapes with ease and putting together some interesting character designs that pay homage to the original
Star Wars look while mixing it up with more primitive surroundings and garb, Lost Tribe of the Sith: Spiral’s art team manages to conjure images that are familiar, yet new, to the world of Dark Horse’s
Star Wars comics.
For
Star Wars fanatics who simply can’t get enough of their favorite fictional universe, and its signature bad guys,
Star Wars: Lost Tribe of the Sith: Spiral is right up your alley. For those new to Dark Horse's
Star Wars comics, this isn't a bad place to start.
