Six Pack and Dog Welder #1 of 6

A bunch of idiotic heroes and rejects hang out at a bar, aspiring to greater heroic heights, like fellow patrons, Power Girl, Catwoman and Starfire. But the rejects have to convince the wife of their friend who is literally a gut to not let herself be lectured about her husband’s cheating. Oh, and a strong supernatural force comes to punish one of the rejects.

This comic book, from what I understand, reuses characters from Hitman. This is their spin off series. While it’s fairly easy to jump in, the premise is so weird that I have no clue about whether I like this comic or not. The characters’ introductions provides a few basic about who they are but not enough information for a new reader who is unfamiliar with them to have a grasp into their relationships and what led them to the place they are today. That’s a major problem. The old Joe Shooter rule about writing every comic as if it was someone’s first was used by Garth Innis.

What I do like is the cartoony realist art by Russ Braun. His work has a lot of comedy. I like his facial expressions and pantomimes. There is a Steve Dillon quality to his work but with better faces and diversity of faces. Unlike Dilllon, his characters don’t all look the same. The best thing about this comic is the artwork.
