Nightwing The New Order #3

The tumultuous history between Dick Grayson and Bette Kane is explored as the two come on opposing sides of the law when it comes to the fate of the young Jake Grayson. But in order to stage a rescue of his son Nightwing has to rely on the help of an old friend, Tim Drake. Meanwhile, Kane sends Green Lantern John Stewart after Nightwing. Will he escape the sight of the Green Lantern?

This issue was necessary to explain even more back story into what happened to this world after Dick Grayson eliminated all super powers. I enjoyed it and can see many more parallels with similar dystopian stories involving super heroes. As a genre, they all start with the very familiar and twist what readers know into something else. Hence, it is a genre best appreciated by learned fans with a history with the universe involved.

Nightwing’s New World Order is a possible future of the current DC Comics universe and so far it involves a limited cast and attempts to focus on the relationships between characters instead of the more grandiose kind of adventure. It works well as Nightwing, regardless of his standing in the DC Comics universe exists mostly as a character involved in a multitude of relationships with the Titans, the Justice League, and the Batman family.

Trevor McCarthy continues to deliver solid pages although I wish some of his characters would look much more aged than they do in this series. Dick Grayson, obviously looks older but this is not something that can be seen with some of the other super heroes such as John Stewart. I do like his rendition of Tim Drake as a balding geek.
