Review: Nightwing #41

The Judge has bodies stacking up like cord wood, and Nightwing has had enough. He’s determined to end the Judge’s reign of terror or die trying. But of course, the Judge has other plans. Oh, he doesn’t mind if Nightwing dies trying to stop him, so long as he’s able to complete his plans for destroying every casino along Bludhaven’s boardwalk.

Sounds like a stalemate, no? But what if the Judge offers Nightwing what he wants most of all – absolution? What then? Does Nightwing take the opportunity to ease his conscience? But in so doing, that would leave the Judge free to continue, which would only add to Nightwing’s tormented sense of justice.

This concludes the current story arc, and it’s about as satisfying an ending as I’ve seen. I’m hardly giving away anything by saying that good triumphs over evil, but it hasn’t necessarily been a long, hard road to get there. Perhaps a little bit of padding, but nothing ridiculous, and it introduces an interesting new villain to the DCU.

Overall, Nightwing is strong title that I am enjoying. My only grievance is how often DC tries to re-write Dick Grayson’s history. He’s arguably the third-oldest character in the DCU, so I’d prefer to see all that history count for something. For the most part, it has.
