Hello again my comic junkies. I am continuing here my review of the latest X-Men crossover called Second Coming. Here I am reviewing part eleven in the crossover New Mutants #14.
So let's talk about the book. Things are looking grim for our merry band of mutants. Nimrods are coming out faster than they can be stopped. The mutants are starting to be overrun. Time for backup. Here comes Legion, Xavier's son and all around nut job. But he is an omega class mutant so let him at those Nimrods. He dispatches the first bunch and gets ready for more. Meanwhile, in the future, Cable and X-Force penetrate the Master Mold's headquarters and are about to attack the Master Mold creating the Nimrods when the other Master Mold rises. Looks like X-Force has some work to do. Finally, inside Utopia's sick bay, Magneto rises from his sick bed and prepares to enter the battle. And that's the book.
So let's talk opinions. Two things stick out to me immediately. The panel where Master Mold stands was just an incredible vision. It gave me the shivers. I have a feeling that we might lose a mutant or two to this monster. The other thing that made me want to cheer was Magneto on the last panel. Good to see the master of magnetism awake and part of the battle. And the entire breaking of Colossus' arm sequence was cool. The story was not too intense but the battle panels were cool. Also, it's great to see Legion in the action. He is an underused resource. I'm surprised that they have not woken up Sebastian Shaw to fight as well. There are a couple of guest artists in this book but I was not too impressed by their art.
Overall, I would rate this book a 7 out of 10. Little story progression. No new revelations about Hope. Great battles. Great tension building panels. That's my opinion folks. Take it or leave it.
