Review: Mother Panic Gotham A.D. #4

Violet Paige is in an alternate reality, in which Gotham City has tilted sideways. A former Robin holds the underworld in a grip of fear – one so strong it even has Scarecrow under control. And aiding him is a seeming Joker protégé. Thankfully, there’s Mother Panic and Fennec Fox to battle the villains who would poison the people of Gotham.

It’s a classic Batman & Robin the Boy Wonder moment, but that’s all it is. It quickly deteriorates into the modern version, with a blood-thirsty sidekick barely kept in check by her mentor.

Meanwhile, Violet’s brother is struggling to reconcile who this younger Violet is, when the one he knows is under wraps at a secret facility. And if he isn’t able to get to the bottom of his conundrum, he may find himself kept under wraps at a secret facility.

There is a brief back-up feature told through the eyes of Violet’s precognitive mother. Like many oracles of fiction, he ramblings have multiple interpretations. There’s no telling what it means for Mother Panic & Co.

I appreciate this alternate reality take on what was another addition to the Bat-Family. As I said once before, she seemed redundant at first, but in another universe, her role has the potential to expand beyond the constrictions of mainstream DC continuity.
