Mera Queen of Atlantis #2

Orm, the Ocean Master, former ruler of Atlantis and brother of Aquaman visits Mera by Amnesty Bay as a courtesy before setting his aim for Atlantis. Although a dangerous man, Mera who is now underpowered agrees to meet him. How will Orm react when he learns that Mera, the Xebelian is the new ruler of Atlantis?
Of course, Orm reacts badly to the news and attacks Mera. This issue is a continuation of the previous one where we witness a weaker Mera handling opponents she cannot defeat easily. Here, Mera takes another beating while Tula, Orm's sister remains useless.
While I like Orm's banter prejudicial comments against Mera, a Xebelian, I dislike that the basic plot is the same as the previous issue. The comic will need to expand quickly beyond its narrow range if it is to provide Mera with a memorable series.
I trust Dan Abnett's handling of Mera and Aquaman. Since Rebirth, he has been the steward of these characters. However, my feelings about there being a missed opportunity for Mera persist.
Lan Medina’s work looks better this issue thanks to new inker Norm Rapmund. Medina is good with action scenes. Yet, I would have preferred if Nicola Scott had also been invited to elevate the series into classic territory.
