Luke Skywalker has just defeated Darth Vader and the empire for the first time and needs training to become the best Jedi ever. But first he and his crew must escape the wrath of Darth Vader and find the holocrons, receptacles of Jedi knowledge. Will Luke and his allies find the holorons before Darth Vader gets them for himself?
This story was fun and a perfect introduction to the world of Star Wars for kids. I had a very brief focus group test with a very active child. He was captivated the moment the DVD played. Of course Lego Star Wars feature the popular Lego toys as Star Wars characters. What I enjoyed the most was how the characters and other features were really modelled as Lego parts, keeping that universe consistent.
The disc features four stories and an extra sequence with an alternate ending of the last episode. The voices are a bit different but your favourite Star Wars special effects are all included. The series also foreshadows and references many other characters from different Star Wars periods. Not being the world’s most knowledgeable Star Wars fan, I could not tell about many of the details and continuity. Nevertheless, it was still easy to follow the story and probably a good way for your kids to learn more about Star Wars.
The animation was good. I enjoyed the textures which were a mix of plastic looking parts and renderings that captured elements from the realistic universe the characters are usually part of. When the Lego look and feel was appropriate, the rendering and textures felt like plastic toys. But when something else was necessary, like with the metal shine of the Droids, that was chosen by the designers instead.
