This week marks my departure from
Johnny Bullet, the comic strip that has been so important for my wellbeing as I completed my PhD.
Johnny Bullet allowed me to vanquish my fears of not being good enough to draw and write a comic. I jumped in this project without a thought or preparation. To quote Nike, "Just do it."
This four-year journey allowed me to discover Johnny Bullet and his world. The Johnny Bullet that we saw in the last few strips is very different from the one in the first few pages. I don't know when I will revisit
Johnny Bullet but I can't wait.
While I will not create new strips for now, I will still be busy relettering, colouring, and redrawing older strips for the print edition.
My next project,
The German Cousin, will allow me to tackle my creative fears again. It is the longest comic that I created before
Johnny Bullet. In the summer 1994, during my first year at the university, I storyboarded the 75-page story. I never drew the clean version of this comic for fear that my drawings were inadequate.
Johnny Bullet has given me the confidence to finally complete
The German Cousin.
Cheers
Hervé
