Irresistible #2 Advanced Review

Following an inexplicable turn of events in issue #1, Allen Keeg finds himself quite literally irresistible to the opposite sex. Although he gives himself over to his baser instincts by going to bed with every woman who asks, he can't escape his feelings of despair steaming from the fact that his ex-girlfriend left him.

There is a lot of sex in the first few pages (and by "a lot" I mean you'd think you were watching an adult film rather than reading a comic book), but just as the overt sexuality is about to stretch beyond all reason—even in the context of a curse-driven plot—Keeg snaps back to reality as memories of his ex come flooding back to his mind. The balancing act between an ever-increasing hyper-sexuality and emotional trauma works quite well for the series, because it honestly portrays the unbridled nature of one's inner sexual fantasies, but just as quickly points out the consequences of attempting to make them a reality.

Irresistible explores the inherent dangers of co-dependence—the attempt to validate one's existence by being in a relationship. There is no denying that break-ups are difficult, if not outright excruciating, but if our self-worth is entirely dependent on another person, Irresistible proves just how dangerous such a mindset can be.
