Green Lantern: New Guardians #11 Review

The various Lanterns blame Greed-powered Larfleeze for stealing their rings and go after him. But Larfleeze shows that greed is tough enough to stand up to the rest of emotions.

Again, this issue could have used a little more explanation of why the Green/Red/Pink/Blue (etc.) Lanterns are going after their Orange counterpart but the book is so filled with passion, conflict and plot twists that the story moves along quite well, even if you aren't completely sure what is happening.

It is surprising-- and gratifying to see a comic that has so much action but does not resort to using excessive gore. Every one of the New Guardians seems deadly serious in their intent-- even those powered by love, compassion or hope. Larfleeze particularly has regained his early creepiness and venality, making him more threatening.

The art also has a very good combination of darkness and detail that really makes the action look more brutal and deadly. It is almost like a war movie than a space opera.

One big problem facing this book is the way it keeps escalating threats. We now have a solar-system-sized space ship that can destroy planets with ease. Eventually, even the most devoted readers will get jaded and will stop getting excited by all the spectacle.
