Britt Reid Jr. wants to make peace with his father Britt Reid Sr. However the father is involved in a mayoral campaign to spruce up support for his old friend. But while this is going on a party of the city’s elite at the Reids is crashed by masked opponents. Will the Reids fight the attack or will a new Kato come and save The Green Hornet and his son?
This issue continues to build up the characters into strong ones before throwing them in the ring. This is good. I do feel that Reid Jr. is rather brave to join his father in a fight against home invaders while he is not accustomed to such actions. I like the issue very much and I feel that Smith is doing a good job of reintroducing Green Hornet and Kato to a new generation that did not grow up reading their comic books. It borrows a lot of the best elements from the Now Comics series, such as the multigenerational aspect of the character and how the Green Hornet is a family business. It’s not ground breaking work, but it is satisfying nonetheless.
Although accomplished artist Phil Hester draws the breakdowns, the storytelling g and fights scenes are not the best I have seen. There’s a real problem with the choreography and Lau’s elongated figures don’t help much. But regular non action scenes fare much better.
