Green Arrow #3

Green Arrow has been captured and is live on the Internet been watched by thousands who want to see him die. But will he go down fighting, or will he fight these villains and free himself?

The premise of the story is interesting. It’s a gladiatorial game and people are paying to see it play out. Roulette did it in the Justice Society and way way back, the Justice League of America had to deal with a similar premise (early 1980s). There was also a cool mini-series with Batman and Wildcat based on the same concept. The update with the Internet crowd viewing while fun, is not well-executed. I don’t understand why Green Arrow had to go preachy on this kind of activity. One wonders where the voice of the character ends and where that of the writer start? What is it about this peeping culture that so annoys the writer? The one thing he did well was show that Green Arrow was no slouch and could defeat several powered villains all by himself.

Jurgens and Pérez may sound like a dream team, but the work comes out stiff. It really feels like a book from the 1990s. The storytelling is brilliant, but the rendering, while well done still continue to feel old.
