Review: Gotham Academy #2

The Gotham Academy Detective Club is back in action – if only they had a mystery to solve. As a long-time fan of detective fiction, it seems that teen-age sleuths – from the Scooby-Doo gang to the Hardy Boys – don’t so much seek out mysteries as much as stumble upon them.
But it’s a new semester, and new to Gotham Academy is the Witch Club, akin to Harry Potter, I suppose, but a touch more nefarious. Perfect for the Detective Club, especially when one of their own is caught in its clutches.
Meanwhile, new student Amy is still finding her way at her new school, seeking a way to fit in among the tightly-knit cliques. No doubt it’s a predicament many readers can relate to. Meanwhile, Pomeline and Eric seem to share a mystery that no doubt will be explored later.
I still love the artwork as much as always; line drawings against painted backgrounds. Visually, it’s very much like an animated cartoon in comic book form. Perhaps we’ll see it faithfully translated to the small screen someday, but in the meantime, this is almost as close to animated as I’ve ever seen.
