The National Post reports that Futurama, a series created by The Simpsons' creator Matt Groening and fellow colleague David X. Cohen has not been renewed by cable network Comedy Central. The 2012/2013 season will be the last. Futurama, reports the National Post, was cancelled by Fox Television in 2003 already and was then revived by Comedy Central as a series of direct to home specials and then as a regular 26 episodes series in 2007.

Futurama has not had the same longevity as sister series The Simpsons but has gathered a cult following over the year, captivated by 21st century man Fry who funds himself in the future, several centuries in the future.

The last episode of Futurama will air on Comedy Central on September 4, 2013. New episodes will start on June 19, 2013.
