Bonevile and Beyond
Bone is a long running comic book series and the fact that it has won very many awards is testiment to its continued quality.
"..as sweeping as The Lord of the Rings cycle, but much funnier'' - Time magazine.
Bone is written, drawn and published by Jeff smith. It is a title that I have seen once or twice, but been distracted from picking up by a quest for another comic book title (I'm sure you know how that goes!)
Three cousins who have been ejected from their hometown (Boneville) after a failed mayoral election, get separated. After each experiencing arduous journey's, they are reunited in a mysterious valley, and find themselves in the medieval village of Barrelhaven. There they find themselves drawn into a battle between good and evil.
Phoncible P. "Phoney" Bone, Smiley Bone, and Fone Bone, are to be brought to the big screen by producer Dan Lin (Sherlock Holmes, Terminator Salvation, The Departed) with scripting duties going to Justin Monjo. Animation studio, Animalogic (Happy Feet) are tasked with bringing the weird and wonderful world of Bone from the page to the screen. Although a director is not yet attached to the project, it has been reported that Dan Lin one is soon to be brought onboard. And that there may be a similar creative dynamic with Bone as there was with Hellboy. Creator Mike Mignola and director Guilermo Del Toro collaborated to great effect during the production of that movie.
If you would like to read about the adventures of the bones cousins, about their battles against rat creatures, dragons and evil shapeless beings, why not start with Out of Boneville, which collects the first six issues of the series.
