Flash #20

At the end of last issue Wally found out Barry Allen has been keeping his secret identity from Iris West, and sped off in a huff upon the revelation that his father Daniel the Reverse Flash (at least one iteration) was dead. Therefore there is no Kid Flash in this issue. There is plenty of Iris West though, as the comic begins with a mother telling Iris that her son’s dead body has been stolen. Iris as in investigative journalist with integrity feels compelled to investigate. The body wasn’t an average corpse but a speedster who was affected by the Speed Force Storm.
Iris gets stuck in Star labs disguised as a black hole scientist when Flash shows up.
This issue is following the melodrama and secrets of the last issue. There are some excellent moments but too much of it seemed taken up with drama for the sake of drama.
Since the Rebirth I have found the storytelling of this comic to be pretty strong and entertaining, so I regret to say this issue didn’t seem to meet the recent standards set by The Flash.
The primary weakness in the tale was it felt rushed. This was almost comic with shaky cut scenes but forgive me for muddying the review waters with a clumsy metaphor. Bottom line an enjoyable comic with intriguing hook at the end but overall not the strongest effort. The artist was serviceable but there were a couple panels that looked sloppy and rushed as well.
